Test party

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

I got feedback yesterday from Robbie Tan regarding our test shoot. He’s the head of the monitoring committee for Cinemalaya and the one who’s really nakatutok on what the 10 filmmakers are up to. He said that the result of the shoot was generally good. He nonetheless gave me a few comments and suggestions on how to improve. The main gist of it was to have a lot of coverage so that we would have enough footage to choose from during editing.

I have to admit, I initially thought the test shoot was a huge hassle. Especially since I found out about it only this February, when I was already planning a (more…)

Testing 1, 2, 3

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009

We are doing our test shoot for two sequences tomorrow already. I decided to shoot it really as a test, rather than shooting with the real actors in the real locations with (gulp) the real equipment.

So this is how we’re managing it…

We’re using the video equipment and lights of our production house, Eccena Inc. We’ll be editing there as well.

Edwin found us two theater actors who are game to play the parts of the lead and his wife, for a minimal fee. Edwin himself will play one of the parts.

Yesterday my sister, Liz, went searching for temporary locations for our test shoot. She found a couple in the vicinity of our mom’s house in Marikina. (Yey convenient!) I checked it out, and we decided on one that happens to be the house of another theater actor. (Small world.) The owners were happy to let us use it for a couple of hours.

Today, I’m meeting with Pao and Liz to talk about the logistics and the shots.

Unfortunately, our production designer won’t be able to join us tomorrow for the shoot. She’s got a lot on her hands, what with 2 Cinemalaya entries, and probably some rackets.

Oh well, the sequences are simple anyway. I was fortunately allowed to shoot just 2 sequences instead of 3 so hopefully it will be short and sweet.

Here i go again

My script went through my team of usiseros and advisers these past few days. Today I’ll be revising it again, hopefully for the last time.

It’s a blessing in disguise that I had to move my shoot to March 18, instead of February 25. With all the script revisions, I would’ve been so unprepared if I forced myself to shoot next week.

Funny how this directing business has turned me into a more spiritual person.

Met with Bing Lao yesterday, who is fresh from his directing debut of Biyaheng Lupa. He shared some stories and anecdotes and lessons he learned from (more…)

Hallelujah!

Sa wakas! Finally! Hallelujah!

I’m done with my script revisions!

I can go back to having a social life!
Whew! What a relief.

I’ll still have the script go through my team of advisers and usiseros, but i’m pretty satisfied with it. I need to let it lie for a few days before i read it again and see if it needs more work.

I’m itching to put on my director’s cap and work on my shot list. Aha. That should be fun.

Revise, revise, revise

From the moment I wake up in the morning to the minute I sleep, my mind is on the script of 24k. Man, I am under a lot of pressure.

Every now and then I drift back to the time when I was 12 years old hanging out with my cousins in my uncle’s house in Laguna.

cast-meet-24k

Cast and crew of 24k

(top from left) Alchris Galura, Edwin Guillermo, Recci Bacolor, moi, Arturo Escabusa, (bottom from left) Jojit Lorenzo, Archi Adamos, Andoy Ranay, Julio Diaz, Joy Puntawe

We met our main cast for the first time today. I tried to scare them off by telling them how much hiking they’d be doing, and showing them photos of the locations and the 30 feet hole they’d be going into. I wanted them to join with eyes wide open.

Well, they must be a bunch of real masochists cause they seemed to be (more…)

Fooling around in Vigan

We got back from Ilocos Sur earlier than scheduled. I tried, I really tried, to rewrite my script while I was in Vigan, but there were just too many distractions, especially with a festival going on. So I opted to go home on Feb 2 after our ocular and get some real work done.

Here’s Edwin and I fooling around in Vigan (ahem, instead of working on my script).
